The Shipley Urban Environmental Center, which opened its doors in 2004, marked the first urban environmental center in New Jersey. Named after donor, volunteer, and friend Judy Shipley, the center is a place where you can learn new skills, engage in the community, and participate in exciting activities.

The campus of the center includes the Prudential Outdoor Learning Center, located on Prince Street in downtown Newark. This 1.5-acre outdoor learning center features outdoor exhibits located in a series of 10 thematic gardens.
